I don’t know about you, but if there’s a country I tend to associate with donuts, it’s the United States, not really Japan.
However, in almost one year in Japan, I think I have seen and probably eaten more donuts than in seven years in the US.
Go figure…
Mister Donuts at Youme Town in Takamatsu
OMG, so jealous! I agree donuts are the absolute LAST thing I would have associated with Japan. Angel Cream are my favourite. When I lived in Miyazaki we would play rock paper scissors to decide who would take the 8km round bicycle trip from our office to the Mister Donuts store. When I was last in Tokyo (about 4 years ago) I introduced my son and husband to them too. I had been telling them about these great donuts (and wishing I could have them again) while getting lost in that great metropolis and suddenly a Mister Donuts appeared from around the corner. Prayer answered… and we also got directions from the counter staff. Win:Win

Donuts everywhere in Japan. We have both Mister Donuts and Krispy Kreme near us in Gifu.

I went to Mister Donuts this morning for an awesome breakfast and coffee with free refills! In case you want a little history, Mister Donuts actually originated in America. There used to be a lot of them, until they changed ownership. Now most of them have become the notorious, Dunkin’ Donuts. Way worse then the predecessor in my humble opinion.

Thanks. Yeah, I knew that Mister Donuts was American, but I didn’t know it had become Dunkin’ Donuts in the US, I thought they were two completely different brands.
And believe it or not, but I never went to Dunkin’ Donuts in seven years in the US. There weren’t any in my town, only Krispy Kreme (which I’ve never seen in Japan, but John says there are some in Gifu (and I’m sure elsewhere too).
Yeah, we have Krispy Kreme in Nagoya and a new one just opened up in Morela in Gifu.
