I’ve already mentioned it here as well as posted a few pictures, but never gave any details. Here are some.
The Red Lighthouse of Takamatsu is located at the end of a 1800 ft long breakwater. It was built in 1998 with the rest of the Sunport. It’s not very high, only 46 ft, but it’s the only lighthouse in the world to be built almost entirely of glass, in such a way that at night, it’s the entire lighthouse that emits light, red light.
It’s also my entry for Show Me Japan this week-end.

Seeing it at night like that in your photo makes me think of a horror movie though. ;
A Horror Movie? Why? Well… Just from the picture, I could see why. But believe me, unless it’s a horror movie with a sea monster or a fisherman killer, there’s nothing “horror movie like” in the surroundings.
I’m happy that I saw the lighthouse myself and yes, it is a beautiful lighthouse. ^^
I’m sorry to have to say but I think you’ve missed a golden opportunity. Is it too late to change the title to “Takamatsu’s Red Light district”?

LOL… That’s an idea. And it would attract a lot of traffic. I’m not sure if it’s the kind of traffic I would like on the blog, though.
I’m a sucker for lighthouses anyway, but this is gorgeous. It reminds me of a red lantern that one would see in a japanese restaurant. I would to see this up close and personal.
Yeah, at night it’s beautiful (not as much during daytime though). I hope you get to see it someday.
How adorable! I saw that structure when we were there, but me being stupid me, didn’t stop to investigate further. And besides, we were there in daytime.
Told you you should give a second shot at Takamatsu.
Beautiful shot David. I love getting to know the area better. I know Shikoku quite well, but I have only taken a ferry through the Seto islands.

Coming from Maine I have spent most of my life within walking distance of a lighthouse. First time I saw an all red one. Super Cool David!
